这些年来,我有许多机会就近观照王蒙,但是一直没有为他写点什么,研究性的,批评性的,或者别的什么式的,统统没有。我也说不清为什么。可能我既不像一些理论家希望通过对作为部长的王蒙的连篇累牍的“论”以至写出一部厚厚的专著来“论”,而希冀得到什么,也不像某些左视的先生们那样不惜用大字报式的文字来“批”作为作家的王蒙而想捞到什么,于是就闭上了嘴,搁下了笔,什么都不说,什么都不写。但这一次,为了我主持的专栏的补白,就不能不写上一篇了。
