20世纪初,三大潮流支配着欧美视觉艺术界——以凡·高为先导的表现主义、以高更为先导的原始主义与幻想风格、以塞尚为先导的构成主义。他们在反传统的旗帜下致力于追求非描绘性的抽象表现。其中塞尚是法国继印象主义之后的绘画革新家,提出“画面自有其真实性”观念后,将艺术追求的理想放在了追求艺术自身的真实,致力于追求自然中的永恒。
At the beginning of the 20th century, the three tidal currents dominating the visual arts world in Europe and the United States - manifestations of Van Gogh’s prerogative expressionism, the patriarchal style of primitiveism and fantasy that was more advanced, and Constructivism headed by Cezanne. Under the banner of anti-tradition, they are committed to the pursuit of non-descriptive abstraction.
