文艺消费与文艺欣赏、文艺接受同中有异,异中有同。在各种形式的文艺消费中必然包含着文艺欣赏的成分。在商品文化语境中,文艺欣赏也必然在很大程度上成为一种商品消费。但文艺消费和文艺欣赏、文艺接受的内涵、外延不同,侧重点和关注点也不尽相同,所体现的艺术文化观念、文化形态和研究视角更大为不同。文艺消费的涵盖面要远远大于文艺接受、文艺欣赏,它显示了一种,也需要一种更为广延的视野和思考。
