水是水稻生产的基础。在平原地区,稻田所需的水依靠自然降雨就能很容易解决。而在沟壑纵横的云贵高原,虽同样有充沛的降雨,但给稻田留存所需的水就显得有些困难。为种植水稻,勤劳智慧的高山人民历经艰辛开山辟田,修建层层梯田保存雨水,形成了许多惊世骇俗的梯田景观。哈尼梯田就是其中的典型代表。哈尼梯田是人类文明的瑰宝,反映了华夏稻作文化的惊人成就。
