There are answers to this week’s e-commerce question and answer – at the final meeting of the American Electronic Commerce Advisory Committee (ACEC) in Dallas, members will vote on proposals for the Internet tax issue. This proposal requires the extension of the time limit for the new differential tax on e-commerce transactions. According to two officials who understand the situation, this proposal will win the majority of votes. ACEC’s resolution is closely watched by online retailers and local state taxation authorities, because its recommendations may become the basis for legislation, and the introduction of relevant regulations will affect online sales tax. In 1998, since the establishment of the E-Commerce Advisory Committee, members have been arguing about this issue and it is still not possible to reach agreement.
