我所是在我国第一个社会主义建设高潮中，迎着工农业和地质工作发展的需要于1957年建立的。二十多年来做出了一定成绩，走过了从模仿到创新，从创新到赶超国内外先进水平的发展过程。本来，从一九五七年开始，经过十多年的努力，勘探技术研究工作的初步基础已经建立起来，顺利发展下去，工作可以取得更大成绩，由于林彪、“四人帮”对全国科研机构大砍大杀，我所的实验设备和实验基地被拆毁，全体职工被下放，一切前功尽弃。一九七二年，我所科技人员在没有试制、试验条件情况下，长年累月，分别到全国各地有关工厂、队从事科研工作，后来逐步扩大活动范围达二十个省、市，协作单位有九十多个点。在各工厂、野外队、学校和科研单位的大力协助下，难苦奋战，克服了重重困难，使科研工作加快了
