象征本是修辞格之一,类乎古之“托物言志”,意谓通过对具体事物的描绘,引起人们联想,表现深刻含义。《灯》的象征意义应从全文的巧妙的构思方面分析。 作者把亮在人们眼前心里的、众多的明灯,按眼前的灯,回忆中的灯,联想中的灯来分类。这样分类便于由近及远、由浅而深汇聚象征义:那“平房里射出的几点光”,有驱散黑暗的战功;那“风雪夜一点豆大的灯光”,鼓舞异乡人奋然前行;那“孤寂的海上的灯塔”,为生活的迷惘者指路;那欧洲“姐姐为弟弟点在窗前的半夜孤灯”,有执着的爱的期待;那“古希腊女教士希洛点燃的火炬”,有自我牺牲的爱的忠诚;那“陌生人家桌上的一盏灯”,更有起死回生的伟力。它们的象征义各有不同,而这点是相同的:给人希望,给人光明,并转化为巨大的精神力量。例如“我”的友人投河自杀而被救,“醒过来时,他发觉自已躺在一个陌生人的家中,桌上一盏油灯,眼前几张诚恳、亲切的脸。‘这人间竟还有温暖’,他感激地想着,从此他改变生活态度。‘绝望’没有了,‘悲观’消
