国家自然科学基金会副主任中国科学院技术科学部主任师昌绪、中国科学院学部委员柯俊、航空部621所科委主任颜鸣皋倡议,由我国17个学会联合召开的第一届中国材料研讨会1986年11月14～19日在重庆举行。这次会议得到了中国科协的关怀和支持,是一次跨学科跨行业的会议,也是一次学会间进行横向交流的重要活动。会议主题是材料科学与工程的现状与展望,其目的在于促进学科间交叉、渗透与结合;沟通信息;建立横向联系,共同学习、共同提高;加强国际间学术交流与联系;向领导机关提供决策咨询意见。到会代表还就如何促进我国材料科学的发展以及人材培养问题进行了认
