The cultural default is the omission of the cultural background knowledge shared by both the author and his intended readers during the author’s creation. From the perspective of cross-cultural communication, the translator must not only consider the communicative efficiency of the author and the translator, but also increase the aesthetic effect of the text. It should not ignore the cultural differences and need to convey the cultural information in the original text to the target readers. This paper discusses the influence of this cultural phenomenon on translation, and analyzes and summarizes compensation strategies for dealing with cultural defaults in translation.
