The Mexican Revolutionary Party has been in power for 70 years. However, in the late 1980s and early 1990s, with the changes in the environment at home and abroad and inside and outside the Party, the status of the Institutional Party began to change, and the power of the major opposition parties gradually rose. In 2000, Mexico will hold a general election. Whether the Institutional Party can continue its ruling power has become the focus of attention of the Mexican government and the opposition at the turn of the century. At present, the revolutionary party is lifting its traditional banner of “revolutionary nationalism” again, abandoning the idea of “social liberalism” and winning the general election. However, due to many drawbacks, it is not easy to resume the power and influence of the party in the short term. The prospects for winning the election are not yet optimistic
