Japan’s MTSAT-1R satellite, a multi-purpose satellite system that combines meteorological imaging with air traffic control functions, is scheduled to be launched in 2003. The satellite will load an advanced meteorological imager developed by Remote Sensing Company of Raytheon Santa Barbara in the United States. This article introduces the structure, characteristics and working performance of this advanced meteorological imager.
