全世界每年生产6000万辆汽车,要雇佣几百万员工.汽车每年几乎要消耗掉全球石油的近一半,而汽车厂商每年要消耗掉全球橡胶产量的一半,全球玻璃产量的25%和全球钢材的15%.这样算来,汽车工业占据全球发达富裕国家GDP的10%,就毫不奇怪了.“,”The auto industry that has pioneered the forms and weathered the storms of 20th-century capitalism is now over 100 years old, and it is struggling. The markets in America, Europe and Japan, where over 80% of theworld's cars and trucks are sold, have been running out of steam. Average profit margins have declined from 20% or more in its youth in the 1920s to around 10% in the 1960s, and less than 5% now, and somevolume carmakers have actually been losing money. In America the arrival of European, Japanese and South Korean makers has created overcapacity. In Europe, mergers and deals have left the auto industry in a surprisingly healthy state. The three big consolidation deals of recent times have all involved European companies, and have produced mixed results. Besides, other car markets, such as China and Southeast Asia, are booming.
