Objective To observe the efficacy of lacidipine and enalapril in elderly hypertensive patients. Methods A total of 112 elderly hypertensive patients were randomly divided into lacidipine group and enalapril group. The antihypertensive effect, complications and withdrawal rate of the two groups were observed. Results The total effective rate of lowering pressure in lacidipine and enalapril groups was 83.93% and 85.71% respectively, and the antihypertensive efficacy was comparable (P> 0.05). There was a significant difference between the two groups in the incidence of secondary events, the overall incidence of events and withdrawal rates (P <0.05). Conclusion Both lacidipine and enalapril are effective in treating elderly patients with hypertension. However, lacidipine is better than enalapril in the compliance, and the secondary events are obviously less than the latter.
