Creatzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a form of infectious spongiform encephalopathy caused by a specific lentivirus whose infection and transmission are not well understood. There have been cases of corneal transplants and stereotactic post-operative infections reported; the author’s report also suggests that exposure to trauma or surgical procedures may be the route of transmission of the causative agent of CJD. To explore this possibility, we explored the possible risk factors in the past history of CJD patients. According to the diagnostic criteria of Masters et al, the authors conducted 26 cases (20 confirmed cases, 6 possible CJD) and 40 matched controls Epidemiological research, focusing on the investigation of the past history.
