Objective To investigate the expression of CD4 + CD25 + regulatory T cells in syphilis infected men and its influencing factors. Methods The expression of CD4 + CD25 + regulatory T cells (Tregs) in 144 cases of drug-induced male syphilis, 41 cases of drug-induced male non-syphilis, 35 cases of male simple syphilis and 35 healthy males were measured and the prevalence of syphilis infection Drug addicts, the type of drug abuse and drug abuse. Results The levels of CD4 + CD25 + Treg in drug-induced syphilis group were significantly higher than those in non-syphilis group and non-syphilis group (P <0.01). The levels of CD4 + CD25 + Treg in patients with different periods of syphilis, different types of drugs and different ways of taking drugs were higher than those of patients ≤ 1 year (P <0.01). The level of CD4 + CD25 + Treg in patients with drug- (R2 = 0.672, P <0.01). Among drug addicts, the levels of CD4 + CD25 + Treg in both traditional and new drug users were higher than those in single drug users or traditional drug users (P <0.01). The levels of CD4 + CD25 + Treg in injecting and non-injecting drug users were higher than those in injecting or non-injecting drug users (P all <0.01). The levels of CD4 + CD25 + Treg in those taking traditional drugs and injecting drug users were higher than those taking new drugs and non-injecting drug users (P <0.01), respectively. Conclusions The inhibition of cellular immunity caused by the increase of CD4 + CD25 + Treg expression in drug-induced male syphilis is related to the duration of drug abuse and is influenced by the type of drug and the mode of drug abuse.
