AVCHD, a new generation of high-definition video format jointly developed by Panasonic and SONY, brought a revolution in civilian HD video. Unlike previous HDV camcorders that use only miniDV tapes, hard disks, DVDs and even SD memory cards can now be used as storage media for AVCHD cameras - recording 1080i HD video at up to 15Mbps 30GByte hard drive can store up to 6 hours of the highest quality AVC HD video), thanks to advanced video compression coding technology. To date, Sony has released three AVCHD products - the HDR-SR1 E using a hard disk drive and the HDR-UX1E and UX5E using an 8cm DVD disc, while Panasonic’s first-generation high definition AVCHD camcorders use SD memory cards HDC-SD1 and HDC-DX1 also using 8cm DVD. When DXl is going to be officially launched in the Mainland (SD1 is listed overseas only), MI exclusives the first domestic evaluation prototype for the fifth anniversary birthday edition.
