There is a peculiar substance that not only does not require the usual rubber cross-linking processes, but has the properties of a typical macromolecular elastomer with a water content of up to 80-90%. This is the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrosol, also known as high water-containing elastomer or high water-containing gum, occasionally discovered and reported by Chang Sang, a Japanese scientist in the early 1980s. Nowadays, special preparation methods, structures and properties of such high water-containing gums have drawn people’s attention. Its findings help to further study the structure and properties of polymers, but also hope to develop a new generation of medical materials.
