1940年,马寅初年已六旬,任中国经济学社社长,国民党立法院委员及该院财务委员会委员长,中国银行顾问,他所任实职则为重庆大学商学院院长。据说,国民政府尚在南京时,蒋介石还请他教过经济学。这样一个德高望重的知识分子,在政学两界皆有影响的人物,却也因言罹祸,盖因所言为当政者所深忌。当时正是抗日战争最艰苦的年代,广大国土沦陷,人民流离失所,国民政府被迫迁都重庆。
In 1940, Ma Yin was already sixty years old. He served as president of China Economics Society, member of the Legislative Yuan of the Kuomintang and chairman of the finance committee of the hospital and adviser to the Bank of China. He is currently the dean of the business school of Chongqing University. It is said that when the Kuomintang government was still in Nanjing, Chiang Kai-shek also asked him to teach economics.
