白城是吉林省的一个贫困落后地区,经济总量小、结构差、效益低、生态环境脆弱,人民生活水平不高,5个县(市、区)中有3个国定贫困县,1个省定贫困县。党的十五大以来,我们抢抓各方面的机遇,迎难而上,扎实苦干,创造性地开展工作,把白城推进到了一个全面进行大开发、大建设、大发展的新时期。2000年,全市国内生产总值完成73.4亿元,全社会固定资产投资完成19.9亿元,财政收入完成5.17亿元,分别比“八五”期末增长
Baicheng is a poor and backward area in Jilin Province.
