Resolution 25/6 was adopted by the Governing Council of UN-HABITAT at its 25th session, which approved the Guidelines for International Urban and Regional Planning. The resolution called for “international financial institutions and development agencies and UN-HABITAT to assist relevant member states in using and adapting” International Urban and Regional Planning Guidelines “as appropriate and in accordance with their respective national conditions and to further develop tools and monitoring indicators.” The International Cities and Regional Guidelines provide a non-binding global framework for countries to improve policies, plans and designs, as appropriate, to enable cities and regions to become more compact and socially inclusive, Sustainability and integration and relevance.
