通过对经元升记梓行的刻本《绣像批点红楼梦》成书的考察,判定此本为“三让堂本直接翻刻本”乃前辈学者之误识,它的成书有自己的特点:它虽属于三让堂系统刻本,但在刻印时也参考了东观阁嘉庆二十三年(1818)评点刻本;从文本内容和异文情况看,它还爰以程乙本进行了仇校。再以三让堂本、双清仙馆本为参照点考其背景,考定其初刻时间上限当为嘉庆二十三年(1818),下限约为道光十二年(1832)。此外,经元升记本的成书,对了解《红楼梦》文本的传播特征与方式,从宏观上把握《红楼梦》版本的嬗变、演进与发展,都有着不容忽视的借鉴作用。
