Integrins are a family of cell membrane receptors that play a major role in the transduction and induction of cardiomyocyte mechanical stimuli. Integrins and some related cytoskeletal proteins associate actin with the extracellular matrix, triggering intracellular signaling pathways that cause cardiac hypertrophy.
