公元1996年9月15日,投资62亿多元人民币、全长274.08公里的沪宁高速公路全线通车。这条公路横卧长江下游“金三角”,且以我国经济、文化、金融最为发达的上海为起点,串联苏州、无锡、常州、镇江、南京等江苏五个中心城市,故有中国“黄金通道”之称。沪宁高速公路开通一个多月来,已充分显示其经济动脉的作用。每天,仅从南京收费站进出的车辆就达万辆以上;沪宁客运上座率已近80%。这充分说明,中国经济的发展需要高速公路。但是,运行的实践并非一切都尽如人意,沪宁高速公路已经向我们发出急切的呼唤。
