The sixth round of six-nation talks on North Korea’s nuclear issue ended on March 22 with the result of “temporarily adjourning the resumption of the meeting as soon as possible.” For the evaluation of the talks, the six parties responded differently. The reason why the talks did not meet the expected goals was not entirely consistent with the assessments made by all parties. Observers believe that the direct reason for the meeting’s announcement of adjournment is the “technical” and “procedural” difficulties related to financial issues, but the underlying reason lies in the joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea.
