科技英语中的and so on及其翻译

“and so on”意为“and others of the samekind”,“and further amounts or things likeones already mentioned”,“and various otherthings”,英语原版词典大都如此解释。 然而,科技英语中使用的and so on的实际含义远比词典上的释义要丰富得多。这个看似好懂易译的英语习用语在书刊中被曲解或译之不当的,并非个别。究其原因,大凡是译者照词典的释义进行套译,连在句中所用词义已超出词典释义的情况下,也不敢越雷池一步。

“And so on” means “and others of the samekind”, “and further amounts or things likeones already mentioned”, “and various kinds of otherthings”, most of the English original dictionaries are so interpreted. However, the actual meaning of and so on used in EST is far more abundant than that of the dictionary. This seemingly easy to understand English idioms in books and magazines misinterpreted or translated, not individual. The reason for this is that most translators do not arbitrarily step beyond the meaning of the dictionary in translating and interpreting the meaning used in the sentence beyond the meaning of the dictionary.
