匈牙利位于欧洲中部,有“国际象供王国”之称。它良好的自然环境和传统体育观念造就了匈牙利人重在积极参予的体育精神。匈牙利的足球、乒乓球、游泳、国际象棋等体育项目曾在世界上一度辉煌。有些项目至今仍保持着世界领先的水准,如游泳、国际象棋。这些项目的长盛不衰与其有着深厚的群众基础是密不可分的。当然,良好的经济发展和体育设施的大众化、社会化,也为参予体育锻炼与竞技的人们提供了可能和便利。
