斯诺克是最能体现英国人的绅士风度的一项运动。对手之间彬彬有礼的竞争,精于计算、差之毫厘的击球。许多人把台球和保龄球、高尔夫球、网球统称为四大绅士运动。在这项运动中,天才往往会输给沉稳个性的人。一击后,由于死球的阻碍使得对手不能够击打主球使其同时直线完全通过任意球的两边,即称为斯诺克。对手被称为被做斯诺克(snookered)。当即使获得台面上的最高分数仍落后对手的时候,就需要通过做斯诺克来迫使对方失误犯规罚分。
Snooker is the best embodiment of British gentleman’s style. The courteous competition between opponents, skilled in computing, the worst shot. Many people billiards and bowling, golf, tennis collectively referred to as the four gentleman sports. In this sport, geniuses tend to lose to those with a steady personality.
