在高等教育迅猛发展和政治多极化、经济全球化、网络信息化的大背景下，民族院校必须立足自身的优势和特点，强化发展意识、竞争意识和改革意识。大连民院是国家在东北地区建立的唯一的民族学院，也是全国唯一以理工科为主的民族学院，更是全国唯一处在沿海经济技术开发区的民族学院。因此，民族特色、学科专业特色和开放性特色就构成了这所学院的主要特色。 一位教育界的权威人士在考察大连民族学院后说了三句话：“这所学校的建设来之不易，这所学校的特色非常明显，这所学校的发展前景十分广阔”。
Under the background of the rapid development of higher education and political multi-polarization, economic globalization and network informationization, the nationality colleges and universities must strengthen their awareness of development, competition and reform based on their own advantages and characteristics. Dalian National Institute of the People’s Republic of China is the only national institute established by the state in the northeast region and the only national institute mainly composed of science and engineering in China. It is also the only national institute in the coastal economic and technological development zone nationwide. Therefore, the national characteristics, academic disciplines and open features constitute the main characteristics of this college. An authoritative person in the education field said three sentences after inspecting Dalian Nationalities University: “The construction of this school is not easy to come by. The characteristics of this school are very clear. The development prospect of this school is very broad.”
