In order to actively prepare for the preparatory work for the Three Gorges Project, the Ministry of Water Resources held a validation meeting on the feasibility study of “Three Gorges Special Purpose Construction Machinery and Equipment” in Hangzhou in July 1984. There were 95 experts, professors and professional technicians from 30 departments including the Ministry of Machinery, the Ministry of Urban Construction, the CSSC, and the Ministry of Water and Electricity who were involved in the design, research, manufacture, construction and institutions of higher learning. Due to its large scale and high construction intensity, the Three Gorges Project must adopt large-capacity and high-performance mechanical equipment.
