A finite element model based on continuum mechanics is established to simulate the seepage now in embankment soils with piping zone. The focus is placed on the piping zone length and permeability ratio k/k0 and the influence on seepage flow. Main finite element results are presented and discussed. Measures for preventing piping failures are presented.
