国际上早已有“黑格尔学”、“朱子学”、“阳明学”的存在,“船山学”这一概念虽然出现很早,而被明确提出作为一门独立学科来进行研究,却是在20世纪80年代初的事。但是,在上述诸学中,正式就它们的学科内容进行专题研究和讨论,又可能只在“船山学”的发展中出现过。2006年4月,船山学社和衡阳师范学院等单位在衡阳召开了一次“船山学学科建设研讨会”,与会者围绕船山学的内涵和外延、船山学的历史发展和现状、船山学的意义和发展前景等问题进行了热烈的讨论,这对于加强船山学的学科建设是大有好处的。故本刊特邀一些学者撰文继续就这一问题发表高见。
