In late 1983, Zhang Jianquan, the wife of Deng Xiaomu, donated more than 2000 pieces of calligraphy, seal cutting, painting, manuscripts and collection of works of art to Heilongjiang Province. The provincial government decided to establish a permanent collection, collation, research and display institution in Harbin Deng Sanmu art gallery.
