21世纪的公安学，将在现有道路上延伸和创新。公安学将取得与公安事业重要地位相适应的重要学科地位。走上广义公安学的研究道路：“人民治安”成为主旨，进一步发展公安机关的福利性职能，重视公安客体的理论地位，从广义上加强公安主体、公安法制和公安文化的研究。发展学科内部的协调关系：全面加强公安社会学科和公安技术学科的建设，基础学科与应用学科并举，处理好引进与融化的关系，建设公安史学科并开展广义的公安史研究。提高公安学在公安决策中的作用，吸收公安学专家作为公安决策的“外脑”。在国际交流中发展中国特色的公安学，“与国际接轨”的提法值得斟酌。
