在1987年春塔河和漠河的特大火灾扑救中,森林警察所发挥的作用是有口皆碑的。为保卫森林资源扑灭林火,需要有一支训练有素,讲究战法,熟悉扑火器材的专业队伍。但就扑火专业队伍内部而言,机降队灭火较徒步的、摩托化、机械化的队伍更为有利。机降扑火队伍,它不但可以运用地面扑火队伍的成功经验,采用地面扑火队伍的先进技术,而且凭借直升飞机的载运,突出了一个“快”字。它可以快速投入火场,快速遣兵布阵,快速调整或转移。这就避免地面扑火队伍运转不灵,行动迟缓、找不到火场或追不上火头等各种弊端。纵观全局,机降灭火有以下优点:
