本溪钢铁(集团)有限责任公司是一个有着100多年历史的国有特大型钢铁联合企业。在一个多世纪的沧桑岁月中,本钢见证了中国民族钢铁工业发展的每一步,从1949年7月炼铁高炉流出新中国的第一炉火红铁水算起,本钢创造了一个又一个的“共和国第一”:抗美援朝战争的国产第一支枪、第一门炮;社会主义建设初期的国产第一辆解放牌汽车、第一辆东方红牌拖拉机、第一台发电机;社会主义现代化建设时期的第一艘万吨巨轮、第一颗人造地球卫星、第一枚运载火箭……都渗透着本钢人的智慧和汗水。然而,在由计划经济向市场经济过渡的过程中,曾经创造过辉煌的本钢也一度陷入困境。为了走出困境,从1998年起,本钢打响了三年改革和脱困的历史攻坚战。经过三年的卧薪尝胆和艰苦奋斗,赢得了阶段性发展成果,走出了困境,并在此基础上,取得了“十五”发展的新成绩。特别是从2002年党的十六大召开后,本钢以科学发展观为统领,站在新的历史发展前沿,紧紧抓住振兴东北老工业基地的难得机遇,提出了“把本钢建设成为品种全、质量高的千万吨级精品板材基地和具有国际竞争力现代化企业”新的发展目标,开始了大规模、全方位的高科技改造的历史“大决战”。经过五年多的艰苦奋斗,本钢发生了翻天覆地的变化,实现了历史性的跨越,已发展成为以采矿、选矿、烧结、焦化、炼铁、炼钢、轧钢、动力、运输、科研等为主导的国有特大型钢铁联合企业,跻身于中国钢铁企业的第一梯队,和宝钢、鞍钢、武钢等强势企业并驾齐驱。
