This version of “Alice” - the author is my mother Silvia Plass - strictly follows the order of her last manuscript left. As a daughters of her, I can only view it purely on the basis of its history in my home, as I saw it with the first version of “Alice” published in England in 1965, and the American version of 1966 “ Alice ”- the two editors are Ted Hughes, my dad. When her mother committed suicide on February 11, 1963, she left a black spring binder on the desk, containing forty manuscripts of poems.
