Mechatronics requires a unified framework for data management, as well as collaborative applications for the exchange of specific information across design domains. Managing all data and information in one place is a basic prerequisite for effective management of collaboration. Successful product development requires not only innovative products, but also development cycles that are completed on time and on budget. However, industries that produce complex products, including high technology, automotive, aerospace and defense, and industrial equipment, often laboriously integrate the design efforts of mechanical, electrical and software design teams.
