阎卡林是经济日报的社论员,读者多是通过该报每周一的《每周经济观察》专栏认识他的。该栏目创刊于1988年,他是专栏的主持人,文章也主要由他写。1994年,为进一步扩大该栏目的影响,培养名专栏作家,经济日报决定,将此栏目改成卡林的个人专栏。1995年,《每周经济观察》获得了中央主要新闻单位名专栏的称号。 卡林始终记住老领导冯并说的一句话,写评论、研究问题时,必须彻底忘掉自己是谁,要把自己当成国务院总理或部长省长,只有这样,眼界才宽,思路才广,笔调才高。
