Objective To understand the prevalence and influential factors of caries in permanent teeth of middle school students in Anhui Province and provide basic information and scientific basis for oral health care in middle school students in Anhui Province. Methods Four cities were selected according to the level of economic development and geographical features of each city in the province. Epidemiological investigation was conducted on the prevalence of caries among 2,013 school-age students in five secondary schools. The survey includes the basic conditions such as age and sex, oral habits, oral health awareness, eating habits and so on. Results Among the 5 middle schools in Anhui Province, 892 students had dental caries, the prevalence of dental caries was 44.3%, and the caries was 0.62. Among them, 49.6% (402/810) were female caries, which was higher than 40.7% (490) / 1 203), the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that female students (OR = 1.360, 95% CI: 1.142-1.736), regular consumption of carbonated beverages (OR = 1.213, 95% CI: 1.021-1.441) (OR = 0.579, 95% CI: 0.446-0.775) were higher in middle school students with unilateral chew (OR = 1.692,95% CI: 1.370-2.0191) Caries is a protective factor. Conclusion The prevalence of dental caries among secondary school students in Anhui Province is at a high prevalence level. Secondary school students should be encouraged to improve oral health knowledge and cultivate good oral health habits to reduce and prevent dental caries.
