机电一体化最早起源于日本,由机械学与电子学“取前补后”,融合而成的一体。一般人们所讲的“机电一体化”包括以下四个方面: (1)机电一体化技术:是从系统工程观点出发,应用机械、电子等有关技术,使机械、电子有机结合,实现系统或产品整体最优的综合性技术。机电一体化技术,主要包括技术原理和使用机电一体化产品(或系统)得以实现、使用和发展的技术。机电一体化技术是一个技术群(族)的总称。机电一体化技术的共性关键技术有:检测传感技术、信息处理技术、伺服驱动技术、自动控制技术、机械技术及系统总体技术等。
