青岛与“克利伯”合作12年,培养了一大批高端帆船运动人才。郭川是第一个代表青岛参加克利伯环球帆船赛的中国人,成为职业帆船手之后的他还成功创立了40英尺级别单人不间断环球航行的世界纪录和北冰洋东北航线多人不间断航行的世界纪录。宋坤是第一个参加克利伯环球帆船赛全程比赛的中国女性,也是中国首位完成环球航行的中国女性。12年来,约50位中国籍船员经过层层选拔和培训参加了克利伯环球帆船赛,登上“青岛号”实现航海梦。他们中有2/3是青岛人,他们成为一代率先走向世界的帆船手,
