《女勇士》为汤婷婷的处女作,此作品极大地提高了华裔女性在美国的社会地位。故事尽管以中国社会为背景,但是却和美国文化息息相关。作者通过丰富的想象力描绘了一个华人小女孩的童年生活和她周围的五位女性的故事。作品把美国华人贫困,不安定的生活现实,与中国大陆的各种神话女英雄故事结合起来,展示华裔女性在中美文化中不断觉醒,成长和进步。
“The Woman Warrior” is Tang Tingting’s debut work, which greatly raised the Chinese female’s social status in the United States. Although the story is based on Chinese society, it is closely related to American culture. Through rich imagination, the author depicts the story of the childhood life of a Chinese little girl and the five women around her. The work combines the reality of poverty and restlessness of the Chinese in the United States with stories of mythical heroines in Mainland China to show Chinese women constantly awakening, growing and progressing in Sino-American culture.
