“今年是甲午年。甲午,对中国人民和中华民族具有特殊的含义,在我国近代史上也具有特殊的含义。”1895年的“甲午战争”及其结局,对后来的远东政治影响是深远的。甲午战争的研究不能就事论事,不能仅仅从技术和细节比较中孤立地研究这场战争,而应将这场战争放在此后半个多世纪的大历史中来考虑,因为这期间发生了翻天覆地变化的不仅是日本,更有中国乃至整个亚洲。因此,我们只有将这场战争及其后果放到大历史,即甲午战争后一百多年来的历史中,加以辩证总结,我们才能得到较为科学和正确的结论。

Therefore, we can only get a more scientific and correct conclusion if we put the war and its consequences into the great history, that is, the history of over a hundred years after the Sino-Japanese War, with a dialectical conclusion.
