地处苏皖边界的菱塘公社,东临百里长湖,西连丘陵山区,历史上,这里交通不便,卫生状况极差。但是,在毛主席《六·二六》指示光辉照耀下,自无产阶级文化大革命以来,菱塘公社的卫生面貌发生了深刻的变化。特别是从一九七一年起,全公社十五个大队都培训了一至二名女赤脚医生,几年来,这支女赤脚医生队伍沐浴着毛泽东思想的阳光,英姿勃勃地活跃在农村防病治病第一线,被贫下中农亲切地称为卫生战线上的半边天。
