Due to the high cost of developing and producing new aircraft, Boeing Aircraft Corporation and McDonnell Douglas are seeking international partners. Japan’s aircraft development company is a consortium of companies including Mitsubishi, Kawasaki and Fujitsu, which provided 25% of the development funds for the Boeing 7J7 project, and the Hawker de Havilland company in Australia, Sweden’s Saab-Scania and Short Bros in Northern Ireland also provided a total of 5 to 10% of development funds for the project. Boeing also cooperated with Fokker in the Netherlands, MBB in West Germany and IPTN in Indonesia to jointly carry a 90-seat ATRA90 fan-driven engine.
