The effect of the honeycomb selection procedure on the selection of good genotypes was observed at a distance of two strains (d = 100 cm, low density, representing no interspecific competition and d = 15 cm, high density, representing competition between strains). The progress of individual selection under competitive and non-competitive conditions was assessed by comparing the yields of selected offspring and unselected random offspring. The relationship between selection intensity and selection effect was observed and it was found that there may be a negative correlation between individual plant competitiveness and community yield. Whether a single plant should be selected under competitive conditions or under non-competitive conditions has not yet been determined. There was no significant correlation between plant yield and cell yield at these two densities. However, the high yield-selective effect at low densities supports the claim of Fasoulas for selection of individual plants under non-competitive conditions. The results should be used with caution, as the quality of seeds and sampling deviations from randomized plants can have a significant impact on the selection effect.
