本钢五号高炉是目前我国炉容两千立方米以上的四座大型高炉之一。一九七一年投产,经过十年的生产实践,于一九八一年七月停炉进行改造性的大修。除炉体和外围工程以外,还要把西渣口改为出铁口(由原来的一个增加到两个),为此需扩大原有的出铁场。出铁场的扩大,迫使高炉除尘器从原有的位置后移六米,也就是使除尘器与高炉的中心距离由三十米延长到三十六米。同时,由于除尘器的后移,使下降管加长了四点五米。
