With e-commerce, extranet and Web striding forward, Sun will make this year an important phase of Java development. As you can see at the recent JavaOne conference in San Francisco, the situation is pretty tight, and James Gosling, Java’s lead planner, said Java will make a big difference in speed, reliability and agility this year. Sun has released many new Java Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), as well as new JavaOS for consumer devices. Sun has taken a number of steps around the enterprise JavaBeans specification, hoping to add transactional capabilities to business applications. In the meantime, however, Hewlett-Packard and Microsoft are using their own imagination to induce Java, deviating from the direction of Sun’s guidance.
