(1—1)人是一根苇草。 人是什么?人只不过是一根苇草。再脆弱不过了。不需要费很大的劲,随便一点什么就可以把他摧毁。不过,人却是一根能思想的苇草。人的全部尊严就在于思想。由于有了思想,人就比摧毁他的任何东西甚至整个宇宙都高贵得多;因此,人就能吞掉一个宇宙。 这是十七世纪的巨人帕斯卡尔(Blaise Pascal,1623—1663)在他的遗作《思想录》中所揭出的一个命题。原文是:
(1-1) The person is a reed. What is a man? Man is just a reed. Fragile however. Do not need to spend a lot of effort, just a little what can destroy him. However, people are an idea of reed. All human dignity lies in thinking. With thoughts, man is much more noble than anything that destroys him or even the entire universe; therefore, one can swallow one universe. This is a proposition revealed by Blaise Pascal (1623-1663), a seventeenth-century giants, in his memoir, The Mindset. The original is:
