Compared with ordinary thermal power, nuclear power is not limited by the source and transportation of fossil fuels, and the economic benefits are better. Although the investment per kilowatt of nuclear power is approximately 30% higher than thermal power, the cost of power generation is 10% to 40% lower than that of coal-fired power. Therefore, in the energy composition of developed countries, nuclear power plays an extremely important role. By the end of 1999, there were 450 nuclear power plants in operation worldwide. Of these, there are only three in China, accounting for only 1% of the total electricity generated in the country. It is estimated that by 2020, China’s nuclear power will increase to 50. Nuclear power equipment mainly relies on imports.
